Add a timer to Google Slides
Google Slides can't embed live web pages, but you can still put a countdown right on your slide. Set your time, theme and label above, then use one of these two ways.
Option 1: a timer video that plays on your slide (recommended)
- Set the time, theme and label on the timer above.
- Press Google Slides → Download video.
- Upload the video to Google Drive.
- In Slides: Insert → Video → Google Drive, and pick the file.
- Click the video → Format options → Video playback → Play (automatically). The timer starts when you reach the slide.
Option 2: a button that opens the live timer
- Press Google Slides → Clickable button, download the button image and copy the link.
- In Slides: Insert → Image, then select the image and press Ctrl/⌘ + K to paste the link.
- While presenting, click the button – the timer opens full screen and starts.
Questions
- Can Google Slides show a live timer?
- Not directly – Slides doesn't allow embedded web pages. A timer video (which can play automatically) or a link button are the two reliable ways.
- Will the video include sound?
- Yes, if you choose a time's-up sound. The sound plays at the end of the countdown, just like the live timer.
- How big is the video file?
- Small – about 1–2 MB per minute of countdown, in 720p.
